In the right hand task-detail panel, it would be great to see the task path, and to be able to click on any of the parent(s) to navigate to them.
Sometimes you are looking at a task that looks like an orphan in the middle task-list panel, but it actually has parents that are not shown due to filter settings.
Having the entire path show within the right-hand task-detail panel would allow navigation to these hidden parents.
Without this, right now it is very difficult to do.
An example use-case:
- I have my task list sorted by status
- There is a task in the
in-progresssection. 'Brush Teeth' - I want to add a 'sibling' task called 'Floss Teeth'
- I know that 'Brush Teeth' is a child of 'Get ready for bed', but I cannot see 'Get ready for bed'
- I now have to scroll through the list, find the section that 'Get ready for bed' is under, and add a child to it called 'Floss Teeth'
Hi Jesse, You should be able to see the parent task of each task in a sort-by view after you press Ctrl (or Alt for Mac). Let me know if this helps.

Tried the zoom idea. Kind of works, but not really that well for the use case I mentioned.

Hi @crystal, yep I know about that thanks - but you can't click on the tasks in the path to navigate to them.
Moreover, it doesn't always show up right (see #895)

Have you tried zooming in on the Task. Kind of counter intuitive but when you zoom in you get a clickable path which can take you back up the tree. Seems to work in Android and Web

It's important the path task titles be clickable to navigate up the tree too though.
This issue is sort of related to #895 Both arise when you view a task out of it's original hierarchy (for example by grouping), in which case you lose important information that comes from it's place in its full hierarchy.

Will try that, thanks. I still think showing it in the task woukd be useful though

+1 for this. without having the full tree path shown, tasks with the same description (or similar) which are from a different tree can get mixed up. For example, lets say i have the main project then 2 tasks which are A and B. those tasks have 2 sub tasks that are the same type of task e.g. get quotation. on the My Tasks view, i will only see 'get quotation' listed twice. Now i could (and i am at the moment) change the description to 'get quotation A' and 'get quotation B', but that defeats the advantages of having the tree hierarchy and doesn't work well when you have a longer main task name (ie. Not A or B )
I realize there could be a problem with limited space and just how level of the hierarchy can be shown, but even a mouse over popup with the full path would already go a long way to solving this
