#523: Quire Feedback
Status: Completed
Tag: Resolved

Hi,

I often add an email message as attachment in a task. But when opening the file, it will open in the browser, giving a lot of symbols without the correct contents.

Hi Crystal,

some details: Windows version: 1703 Internet Explorer 11 (11.448.15063.0) .msg gile association is set to Outlook 2016

I drag a message from my inbox into a local folder. From Quire I then select to add an attachment and browse to the msg file to upload it.

The moment I click the task attachment it directly opens in a new tab. as reference; xlsx file do work as expected, a popup is presented with different possible actions. Find attached an example.

(please remove the msg file for privacy reasons)

Hi Ivo, So is it working the way I described in my previous comment for you?

Crystal, Jul 25, 2017

correct

Yes, that's a workaround.

Hi Ivo, You are welcome. 😃

Hi Ivo, Thank you for the detailed info. 😃 We have looked into this issue, and it is actually up to the browser to decide what to do with an attachment link (eg. .msg, .xlsx). But if you want to download .msg files, you can still right-click and choose Save. Also, what you can do is to find a related plugin that handles such .msg files in IE11.

Hi Ivo, It is working fine on my side. 😞 That is, when I attach a .msg file to a task, and then click on it, it will download directly to my computer as a .msg file. May I ask what is your browser and its version (eg. Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115), and how did you save the email as a .msg file? And perhaps you can give us your .msg file to help us investigate? Thanks.

Hi Crystal, it ain't great. If you save a .msg file, it by default is saved as html file. Because of that it opens again in the browser.

Could it be possible to auto download all non browser compatible files with the correct extension? So clicking a .msg file resulting in a direct download?

Ivo Meisen, Jul 25, 2017

Hi Ivo, You meant when you click on an email attachment (eg. eml, msg), it will open in a browser tab with only symbols, no contents of the email?

Crystal, Jul 24, 2017

Hi Ivo, Got it. If you save the email as an .eml or .msg file, and attach it to a task in Quire, then it should download to your computer directly after you click on it. Then, you can click on the downloaded file to view it. Screen Shot 2017-07-25 at 1.03.11 PM.png If that is not the case, please provide us with a screenshot of the issue. Thanks!
