#362: Quire Feedback
Status: Completed

Hello,

Is there any possibility of adding a numeric list (1-10) to the priorities drop-down? As a team it is useful to be able to list a set of tasks by numeric priorities rather than as 'stars'?

Also, we find the tags extremely useful but when a tag is added, the coloured area it adds to each task is very small. Is there a way that this could be customised to either fill a whole task line or increase its size?

My team have been using Quire for the last few weeks and really like it, so thanks very much!

Kind regards, Sam

Hi Sam, Thank you for the clear explanation. 😃 A "kanban" feature will be introduced in Quire 2.0 which is currently scheduled for April, but probably at a later stage. You will be able to add kanban boards (columns) with each member added to each column to see in a glance the responsibilities of each member, much like what Pintask offers. You will also be able to easily switch between the existing "tree" (task list) view and this "kanban" view. It should be helpful to you and your team once available. Getting back to priorities list, I see where you are coming from. Please let us think about it. Here is a possible workaround at the moment: Add tags for example "1", "2" and "3" to tasks with the red star priority to indicate those of higher urgency/importance and the order of doing them. By the way, we are thinking about replacing the stars with ↑ for a better visual representation of priority. 😃

Hi Sam, You are welcome. 😃 When you sort by assignee, you can drag and drop tasks under for example David to another assignee to reassign. But if you want to reorder the tasks under David in such a sorted view, we are considering it but have not made up a decision yet. If it is the latter case, I assume you want to do so because you want David to tackle his tasks in a certain order?

Hi Sam, You have just discovered our half-hidden function! When you press Ctrl (or Alt for Mac), you will see IDs and also breadcrumbs (only after sort/filter) of tasks. When you press the key again, they will disappear. It sure would help you understand the context of your tasks and subtasks after sort/filter. Happy to know you like it and thanks for the screenshot. 😃

Hi Sam, Got it. If anything, I will let you know. 😃

Hi Crystal,

While looking at our teams tasks I tried to use a keyboard shortcut and pushed the wrong keys (not sure which) and the listing of tasks changed while sorted on date (image is attached). This is a list of subtasks with their main task heading above them in small font. This looks fantastic - have I stumbled on something you are thinking of implementing?

I was planning to contact you at some point regarding this - when you are sorting on something at the moment it only pulls through the subtasks if they are set at a different due date than the overall task (for instance), so unless they are directly related it can be hard to link the subtasks with each overall task.

Hopefully this makes sense - picture of the view is attached.

The view has now returned to normal by reopening Quire.

Kind regards, Sam

Edit: Holding down Control views each task by Task ID! Did not realise this, makes viewing tasks and their related subtasks much easier! Thanks.

Hi Sam, Happy to know you and your team enjoy Quire. 😃 Can you tell us why you guys need a tool like Quire? About adding numeric priorities (1-10), may I ask why the current 4 star priorities (Urgent, High, Medium and Low) are not good enough? When you sort by priority, you can see a list of tasks from Urgent (red) to Low (grey) too. As for having colored area of a tag till a whole task line, we will disaply as many tags with full width as possible in our upcoming Quire 2.0. It should help. 😃

Thanks very much Crystal.

One final note - with the upcoming update will it be possible to drag and drop tasks (even subtasks) while a sort is in place? We tend to sort by asignee but need to remove the sort to be able to move tasks.

Kind regards,

Hi Crystal,

Your second point yes - it is not currently possible to move tasks/subtasks while sorted by assignee. It's only a minor point, but everybody in my team has asked me the same question.

Kind regards, Sam

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your response, our team need to track various different projects and wanted to find a tool which which did not feel like a chore to update (unlike the various over-complicated tools available) while being able to present/review these in catch-up meetings. It is also a nice way to look back at what was achieved throughout the year.

As a side note; another tool we were considering called Pintask offers a nice alternative to visually represent user tasks. It offers the ability to add 'columns', so multiple lists can effectively be added on one page. We added each team member to a column and tasks can be added per user. It gives a nice top-down view of the overall responsibilities/to-do list for each member. Sorry if you have already looked at this, but may offer an interesting way to separate priorities/users into one page rather than one long list? https://pintask.me

Regarding the priorities list, from a visual perspective we do not find the star system very helpful (quite vague?). When tracking 50+ projects, separating these into four lists does not allow us to truly prioritise tasks. For instance if we have 10+ tasks in the 'Urgent' section, we cannot prioritise which of those tasks are most important. Being able to sort by a numeric order or something similar would ( I think) be more helpful to view where our priorities lie. Again we may be in the niche here, apologies if this does not align with how you view the use of a priorities list.

Great to hear about Quire 2.0, can you tell me when the details will be announced?

Thanks again, Sam
