Currently in a Sort by view, when the position of a task is changed, it changes also in the unsorted hierarchy. That's OK when the task is at the top level, but when a subtask (grouped without its parent task, for example when they have a different due date) is moved, it loses its original context. This behavior is really against my current workflow habits.
In my current workflow, I like to move the tasks marked to be done today into the order in which I'm going to tackle them. The change of the tasks' order serves only to create an agenda for the day. I don't want my tasks to change their position in the overall hierarchy as well, especially I don't want that the subtasks are moved away from their parent task.
I have two ideas how this issue could be solved more to my liking: a) in the sorted view the order of tasks is saved just for that view, independently from other views (unsorted, sorted by an other criteria). b) the change of tasks' order would affected not only the subtask grouped separately from its parent task, but it would change the position of the parent task also.
One other thing: I just checked and now the order of task in a sorted view group seems to reflect the order of their parent task in the unsorted view (like suggested in the 2nd scenario), only it doesn't work the other way around...

Hi Svara, I think I got what you meant. Though your 2nd suggestion sounds more like a preference thing (I mean, everybody has their own workstyle), we will consider them. Thanks for your detailed explanation! 😃

Hi Svara, You are welcome. And duly noted. 😃

I know about the "breadcrumbs" no worries. The problem arises when, using you example, you have other tasks B also due on 1/23. Now you want to reorder the task due on 1/23 so that you know in which order you want to tackle them. Let's say that the subtask 1 is last in that group and I want to do it first. I move the task before task B. Try it with the "breadcrumbs" turned on. They disappear since subtask 1 is in the background moved out of task A and placed ahead of task B.
The two possibilities that came to my mind are: A) the order of tasks in sorted views would be independent on the order in the unsorted view. You could reorder the task as you want in your sorted view and when all you clear filters it would nothing in the order of task would change. So if task B was before task A before sorting them by due date, after moving A's subtask 1 ahead of task B in the sorted view, after clearing the filters the order would be same as before.
B) the order of tasks would be affected by the rearrangement you made. So again if initially the task B was first on the list, followed by task A with its subtasks and you put subtask 1 before task B in the sorted view by due date, when you clear the filters the task order would be A first with its subtask and B second. In the sorted view itself this wouldn't change the position of task A, most importantly subtask 1 wouldn't leave task A. That's the main issue.

Hi Svara, Please allow me to double check what you have suggested: Let's say you have task A which is due 1/30, and it has subtasks 1, 2 and 3, where 1 is due 1/23, 2 is due 1/28 and 3 is due 1/25. When you sort by date and move subtask 2 to 1/26, you would like task A along with its subtasks 1 and 3 to be moved too? If so, wouldn't it come as a surprise since they have different due dates in such as sort by date view? Fyi, you can press Ctrl (or Alt for Mac) to see the "breadcrumbs" (aka the parent tasks) of your tasks in a sort by view. Perhaps this would help with the context thing. And about reordering tasks after sort by, we are aware of such a need and are considering it. Will get back to you if we have anything. 😃

I would probably also prefer the 1st way of handling this. Thanks.
